Dermot was born in Cork and made his first stage appearance at the age of five as the third shepherd in his Turner’s Cross Primary school nativity play….

His career since then has taken him from the Abbey Theatre in Dublin to the National Theatre in London, from the West End to Broadway.

His extensive Television work ranges from Father Ted to Bleak House, with stops along the way for  Foyle’s War, Poirot , Pennyworth, Liar, and of course Luther, in which he played Luther’s boss Martin Schenk, for all 5 series .

Dermot has worked with some of the great film directors: Robert Redford in The Legend of Bagger Vance, Martin Campbell in The Foreigner, Armando Iannucci in The Death of Stalin, Sebastian Lelio in The Wonder. Dermot played General Madine in Return of the Jedi, Major Kamp in Octopussy, and reprised his role as Schenk in his most recent film, Luther The Fallen Sun, which was the No 1 Netflix film in the world on its release earlier this year.
